FTN - Tony and Mick - Part 2 by ~Lord-of-Purple:iconLord-of-Purple:

12:43 A.M.
Day of infection

"What on earth is going on here...?" Tony asked, mostly to himself. The two friends had stopped running, because they were currently facing a sight that was even worse.
The city they had lived in their entire lives had become a maelstrom that was the equivalent of a war zone. They had seen the smoke from a distance, but didn't think it would be this bad. Cars and trucks were piled on top of each other in the middle of the intersection, several lodged into the sides of buildings, and there were two that had actually been flipped over. People were screaming and running about, gunshots were heard everywhere, and there was blood on every sidewalk and street. There were bodies on the ground, but they were all torn apart and shredded in ways too grotesque to describe with words.
Mick let out a small squeak as both of them witnessed a woman having a chunk of her neck torn off by another woman's jaw. Her screams turned into gargles as she fell to the ground. The other woman went to her knees and began...She began EATING the other woman. Mick turned over to his left and started throwing up on the ground. Tony clutched his gut and tried his hardest to hold back what was so violently trying to force its way out of his stomach.
    He failed.
"Mick," Tony panted, "we have to try to find somewhere to hide." That was the best plan he could come up with. He looked over at Mick, who was still bent over, hands on his knees. Without looking at Tony he nodded. Tony looked up, trying to think of somewhere they could possibly go...When he saw a sporting goods store. "C'mon, Mick. Idea." He ran forward, trying to avoid bumping into any people on the way. He glanced back to make sure his friend was still behind him. He was.
The front doors were the automatic sliding ones. For some reason when Tony stepped up to it, it didn't open. Not having any patience due to the situation at hand, he raised his heel and kicked the door open, glass cracking in the process.
"Tony...You know, that had an emergency switch...so you could've just as easily PULLED it open...?"
   "Now's not the time, Mick."
They went inside. Tony looked to his left, then his right, moving again as he saw what he had come for. He grabbed two metal baseball bats and tossed one to Mick. They had weapons, now they needed a safe place to hide. But the problem was that Tony had no clue where they could go.
"TONY, LOOK OUT!!!" Mick shouted. Tony turned around, seeing the store owner (or what he assumed USED to be the store owner) running at him, one eye missing from his skull. Tony yelled and swung the bat out of reflex. There was a CRACK as the monster's head snapped back. He was still standing. Mick came up and swung, able to give it more energy since he hadn't been taken by surprise. The man/monster/zombie/whatever's scream was cut short as the bat smashed into his face, blood splatting out. Tony moved forward and started swinging and swinging, seemingly disintegrating what was left of zombie's face. He was in a sort of blind fury now.
"Tony!" Mick shouted. "Tony! TONY!" He grabbed the bat right before he was about to swing again. Tony stared at the horror lying on the ground, panting and splattered in its blood. He turned to look at Mick, his eyes sort of dilated. He blinked, as if waking up from a trance, and nodded.
"Thanks, Mick...Alright let's...Aw crap." Tony was staring at the entrance of the store. He counted at least three of the walking corpses standing in the entrance door, but was already turned around before he could see if there were more. "Let's go!" He grabbed Mick's arm and they took off. Not knowing where else to go, they went behind the counter, ducking down.
"Tony, what're we gonna do?!" Mick panicked. "What're we gonna do, what're we gonna do?!"
"Relax, we got this under control."
"Under control?! We're trapped! We have ABSOLUTELY nowhere to go!"
Sadly, Tony thought to himself, he's right. We’re...we're gonna die here! Tony heard one of the things hiss. It was closer. Tony's heart quickened. He was now able to feel the vibrations of their footsteps. He looked to the entrance to the counter, and saw one of them standing there. Tony and Mick both yelled, and their screams were joined in by the zombie's raspy battle cry (or what sounded like one anyway) and it took a step forward-
   BAM.
A gunshot was heard. Blood sprayed from the side of its head and it lumped forward to the ground right in front of them.
  BAM.BAM.BAM.BAM.SCREEEEEECHBAM.
Five more gunshots sounded. Tony stared wide-eyed at the body at the floor. He turned to Mick, who had the same exact expression.
"Anyone there?" They heard a male's voice say.
"Yea!" Tony responded. "We're over here behind the counter!" He would've gotten up, but his legs were frozen. Mick helped him to his feet, barely able to control his own, and they saw a boy and a girl standing by the doorway, both at least somewhat close to their age, looking right back at them. Well, the boy was. The girl was staring at the bodies on the floor. The boy looked at them with his green eyes. He asked them,
   "Are you two alright?"
